The given equation is: (a+b)x + (a-b)y = a2 + b2
Putting x = a/2 in the equation we get
(a+b)a/2 + (a-b)y = a2 + b2
(a2 + ab)/2 + (a - b)y = a2 + b2
(a - b)y = (2a2 + 2b2 - a2 - ab)/2
(a - b)y = (a2 - ab + 2b2)/2
y = (a2 - ab + 2b2)/2(a - b)
