If the length of a heater wire of 1000W, 220V is reduced by 20% then what is the power consumption?

Expert Answer:

P = V2/R and R L.

20 % reduction in L means the reduction in R.

Hence the new Rn is 0.80R i.e. 80% of initial R.

P = V2/Rn = V2/(0.8R) = 1250 W since V2/R = 1000 W.
