Expert Answer:
When a person is in coma, he is in a state of unconsciousness for prolonged time. The person does not respond to external stimuli.
However, the metabolic activities of the person may be normal. The cells in the body divide and form new cells, hence growth too takes places.
Apart from the feature - response and irritability, the person may show the other features of life functioning normal.
Hence, though in coma the person is alive.
