i donot understnd when to start the counting frm left or side. nd i dont undrstnd the example in part 2 of organic compounds of topic nomenclature. the example is 2,2,7-trimethyl-4-(1-methylpropyl)nonane

Expert Answer
Start counting from the side which gives lower number to the functional group,double bond or triple bond (whichever present).Prefer triple bond over double bond and double bond over functional group.
