x articles are bought at Rs.(x - 8) each hence cost of x articles is x(x - 8)
(x - 2) some other articles are bought at Rs.(x - 3) each hence cost of x - 2 articles is (x - 2)(x - 3)
According to the question,
x(x - 8) + (x - 2)(x - 3) = 76
On simplifying we get
2x2 - 13x - 70 = 0
Solving this we get
x = 10 or -7/2
As x cannot be negative x = 10
10 articles of first kind were bought.
