The direction of the magnetic field produced by the current element is represented by right hand thumb rule. The direction of begin mathsize 11px style dB with rightwards arrow on top end style is the direction of the cross product vector begin mathsize 11px style open parentheses dl with rightwards arrow on top space cross times space straight r with rightwards arrow on top close parentheses end style, i.e if the curl of the fingers gives the direction of the cross product begin mathsize 11px style open parentheses dl with rightwards arrow on top space cross times space straight r with rightwards arrow on top close parentheses end style, then the thumb will give us the direction of the magnetic field.
