Lets take example of alcohols. All alcohols contain an -OH group. This is shown in a name by the ending ol.
how to name:

The carbon skeleton is a 3 carbon chain with no carbon-carbon double bonds, but a methyl group on the number 2 carbon. The -OH group is attached to the number 1 carbon. So, the name will be 2-methylpropan-1-ol. or 2-methyl-1-propanol.
