Emperical formula :    If  C=54.2%,H= 9.2%and O= 36.6%

Element % At.mass Atomic ratio Simple ratio
C 54.2 12 54.4/12=4.5 4.5/2.24=2
H 9.2 1 9.2/1=9.2 9.2/2.24=4
O 36.6 16 36.6/16=2.24 2.24/2.24=1

so,the emperical formula = C2H4O
