Novels were used by the writers in the colonies in many ways. Firstly, by writing novels and short stories, writers tried to instill among the fellow countrymenn, the feeling of nationalism. They inspired the people to overthrow the foreigh yolk. Secondly, through vernacular writings, they critised the existing superstions and caste system that were existing in the society. THey emphasised on the reformation of the society by laying stress on modern education, women education, removal of caste system etc. They also advocated the principle of equality and justice. Therefore the writers in colonies fought against the foreign rule, existing superstions and inequalities in the society through their writings.
