CBSE Class 10 Answered

How many pairs (x,y) exist, where x and y are natural numbers which satisfy the equation 3x+5y = 1,008?

Expert Answer
SO, if you will factorize 1008, you will find that 1008 = 3 x 3 x 112
Now, if you will notice carefully, there doesn't exist a factor which is divisble by 5. Hence y has to be 0, which is not a natural number.

Also, 1008 can not be expressed as 3x where x can be any natural number.

hence, there doesn't exist a single pair which will satisfy given equation.
