How many 176 ? resistors (in SERIES) are required to carry 5 A on a 220 V line?

Expert Answer:
in parallel, the total equivalent of resistors will be calculated as:
R = 176/n ohm
where as in series it would be R = 176n ohm
thus the number of resistors would be:
(by ohms law)
220 = 5 (176n)
n = 220/(176)(5) <1
thus it is not possible to carry 5 A by this line using resistors in series.
