how is permeability of distal convoluted tubule and the collecting tube controlled to

Expert Answer:

In distal convoluted tubule,  Na+ are reabsorbed actively and Cl- are reabsorbed passively into the blood. Absorption of water is controlled by ADH, which increases permeability of DCT to water. Absorption of Na+ is controlled by aldosterone hormone.

Large amounts of water can be reabsorbed from collecting duct. So it should be permeable to water.
