Expert Answer
A tree’s deep, strong root system protects against soil erosion due to heavy rain and flooding. When trees are cut, they are removed with the roots which create an environment around the soil which is susceptible to erosion. No, the smaller plants and small grasses do not have a strong root system to hold the soil tightly. So, they are washed away in floods.
