Archaeopteryx shares some similar features with reptiles and certain others with birds.

Features similar to reptiles:
  • Jaws with sharp teeth
  • Three fingers with claws
  • A long bony tai
  • Hyperextensible second toes
  • Feathers (which also suggest homeothermy)
  • Various skeletal features

Features similar to birds:

  • Feathers
  • Wings
  • Furcula ("wishbone")
  • Reduced fingers

Thus it serves as a missing link between birds and reptiles
