In the absence of any external field, dipole moment of each non-polar molecule is zero. In the presence of an external field, the centres of positive charges are displaced in the direction of external field while the centres of negative charges are displaced in the opposite direction. This induced dipole in each molecule. The induced dipole moment is added up giving a net dipole moment to the dielectric in the direction of electric field.
