How does a capacitor store energy?

Expert Answer:

A capacitor works on the principle based on a materials dielectric constant.
If we attach a capacitor to a battery, the electrons charge the capacitor's positive plate.
Now the charge is stored till the dielectric breakdown of the dielectric material in between them doe not occur.
When battery is disconnected, the capacitor's negative plate act as negative terminal as its electrons will flow backwards into the circuit.
