How do we know that the grain is affected by abiotic and biotic factors?

Different biotic factors such as microbes and insects and abiotic factors such as temperature, moisture in food grains, moisture in air and material of the container used for storage affect the quality of the stored food grains. All these factors cause degradation in the quality of grains, loss in weight, poor germinability and discolouration of produce leading to poor marketability.
