How can we identify that the wavelength of a certain colour is more or less?

Light of different colors has different speeds in a medium . The colour which travels with less speed gets more deviated in a certain medium ( say glass) and has lesser wavelength . Now, consider the deviation caused by a prism, violet is deviated more than red ; hence its wavelength is less than that of red.
