- Juxtaglomerular Apparatus (JGA) operates viw multihormonal system called Renin-Angiotensin-Aldosterone-System (RAAS).
- When there is a decrease in the GFR, JGA activates and secretes renin.
- Renin converts angiotensinogen (protein) into angiotensin (peptide).
- Angiotensin is a hormone which raises the blood flow and the GFR in the following three ways:
- Constrict efferent arterioles to increase the glomerular pressure
- Stimulate the walls of PCT to reabsorb more NaCl and water
- Stimulates the adrenal gland to produce aldosterone, which promotes reabsorption of NaCl and water in DCT
- This results in an increase in blood pressure and blood volume and a decrease in urine volume and hypertonic urine.
