CBSE Class 10 Answered
how can we determine in which direction light ray is bending in medium by knowing the refractive index . suppose if light goes from air to kerosene were will it bend , towards the normal or away from it , if its refractive indices are 1.0003 and 1.33

Expert Answer
If the light ray goes from a medium with lower refractive index (rarer medium) to a medium with higher refractive index (denser medium), it bends towards the normal.
If the light ray goes from a medium with higher refractive index (denser medium) to a medium with lower refractive index (rarer medium), it bends away from the normal.
So, if light goes from air to kerosene, it will bend towards the normal because kerosene is denser than air.
