If the light ray goes from a medium with lower refractive index (rarer medium) to a medium with higher refractive index (denser medium), it bends towards the normal.
If the light ray goes from a medium with higher refractive index (denser medium) to a medium with lower refractive index (rarer medium), it bends away from the normal.
So, if light goes from air to kerosene, it will bend towards the normal because kerosene is denser than air.
