how can we decide by seeing the compound that the carbon attached with it,is n sp3 or sp2 hybridized pls explain in simple words

Suppose the compound formed by carbon is C2H4 than draw a rough diagram and observe that how many atoms are atached with the one carbon atom. In this compound one carbon attached with the three atoms- one carbon and two hydrogen atoms .so the carbon atoms need three orbitals ,so the hybridisation is sp2.
