how can oxidation numbers be in fraction. is it possible that transfer of 2 and a half electron take place.are we considering wave nature of electrons here.

The individual oxidation numbers of an element in a compound (which we find out through its structure) can never be a fraction. however the average oxidation number of an element in a compound can be a fraction. We find this out by summing the different oxidation no.s of the element and dividing it by the total no. of atoms of that element present in the compound.
