how can I calculate average speed from the given data of distance travelled and uniform speed

Expert Answer:

time taken in first case = t1=distance/ speed =d1/v1  =20/60 =1/3 hr =20min

time taken in second case = t2 = d2/v2 =40/80= 1/2 hr = 30 min

total time t = t1+t2 =20+30= 50 min = 5/6 hr

average speed = total dist/ total time =d1+d2/ t = 20+40/5/6 =60 km/5/6 hr = 72 km/hr
