Basically hormones are broadly classified as water soluble (hydrophilic) and water insoluble (hydrophobic). The hydrophobic hormones are lipid soluble hormones.

On the basis of structural classification hormones can be classified as steroids, peptides, amino acid and fatty acid.

Human hormones are classified with the help of chemical structure as follows:

  1. Short peptides
  2. Long peptides
  3. Proteins
  4. Steroids
  5. Amino acid derivatives
  6. Fatty acid derivatives
