Two carbon atoms form a covalent bond between them by sharing electrons. 
Two carbon atoms cannot form 4 bonds between them. At the most 3 bonds can be formed between two carbon atoms. Example: Ethane (carbon-carbon single bond), Ethene (carbon-carbon double bond), Ethyne (carbon-carbon triple bond).
