Oxidation is a process where an atom is losing electrons and reduction is the process in which an atom gains one or more electrons."
In any reaction while one atom is oxidizing or losing electrons the other is being reduced by gaining what the other is losing (reduction).
2Na + Cl2--------> 2 NaCl
Na --------> Na+ + 1 e- ; Oxidation
Cl + 1 e- -----------> Cl- ; Reduction
We hope that clarifies your query.
With Best Regards,
