Ionization  is the process of converting an atom or molecule into an ion by adding or removing charged particles such as electrons or ions. when ionisation occurs during equilibrium a constant is formed which is called ionisation constant.
let us consider the ionisation of an acid:
For the reaction in which the acid HA dissociates to form the ions H+ and A-, where Ka is ionisation constant:
                 HA H+ + A-
Ka = [H+][A-]
