CBSE Class 12-science Answered
Hello respected sir, can please help me with this problem
two charge +1000 micro coulomb and -1000 micro colomb are separated by 2 meter. the dipole so formed is held at an angle 30° with uniform electric field of 15×10^4N/C. calculate the torque acting on dipole.
Thank you sir

Expert Answer
Figure shows the dipole that is oriented with electric field by an angle 30°
Torque τ acting on dipole is given by, , where p = (q l ) is dipole moment and E is electric field intensity
hence |τ| = ( q l E ) sinθ = ( 1000 × 10-6 × 2 × 15 × 104 ) (1/2) = 150 N-m
θ is angle between electric field intensity and dipole
