Expert Answer:

Atrium is the receiving chamber of the heart whereas ventricles are the conducting chamber of the heart from where blood is pumped to various parts of the body. For pumping blood, the ventricular wall has to be more thicker than the auricular wall. So heart is divided into atrium and ventricle so as to carry out the functions of receiving and pumping the blood.
