We assume that earth of mass remains the same and radius decreases to half it's value, since no external torque is acting, angular momentum is conserved,
I1w1 = I2w2
I1 = (2/5)MR2 , w1 = 2π/T1 = 2π/24, I1 = (2/5)M(R/2)2 , w2 = 2π/T2
Substituting these,
T2 = 24/4 = 6 hrs.
The duration of the day will be 6 hrs.
