No, it's not that the two bodies pulling each other with equal force remain stationary. Sun and earth pull each other by gravitational force, but that force serves as the centripetal force of approximately circular motion of earth around sun. If the moon were to be brought at rest and earth as well, moon will experience higher acceleration due to it's lower mass compared to the earth, and collide with earth.
