Earthquakes are closely associated with volcanic belts

Earthquakes occur when two tectonic plates collide against each other. The weaker plate tends to shift under the crust and melts into magma resulting into volcanic activity. Thus, there is a high correlation between earthquake activity (which includes the geographical belts of earthquakes) and volcanic activity.
