In the following reaction, Fe displaces Cu from CuSO4.Fe gets oxidized while Cu gets reduced.

Oxidation state of Fe changes from 0 to +2 and oxidation state of Cu changes from +2 to 0

electronic arrangement for at no. 9 is (2,7) or 1s2 2s2p5. In its outermost shell, there are 7 electrons hence this atom needs only one electron to complete its octet.
