Consider N number of charges at different positions i.e. a charge configuration.
If we wish to bring a charge from inifinity to a given position among this charge configuration we have to work against the electrostatic force due to all these charges.
Let the work be W.
Then the potential energy = -W.
And potential = -W/q, where q is the charge we brought to a given point say A from inifinity.
so we can have different potentials at different points such as given point A.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POTNETIALS AT ANY TWO SUCH POINTS IS CALLED POTENTIAL DIFFERENCE.
