Expert Answer:
The geostationary satellites are stationary with respect to earth. They however have to map the entire hemisphere of the earth. Hence, they are placed at a higher altitude.
Polar satellites orbit earth at very low altitudes and are sun synchronous. Hence, they map every place on earth twice a day.
