a. Pole : Pole of a spherical refracting surface is the centre of the surface.

b. Centre of curvature: Centre of curvature of a refracting surface is the centre of the sphere of which this surface is a part.

c.Principle axis: The line passing through the pole and centre of curvature of spherical refracting surface, extended on either side is called the principle axis of the surface.
