Following is the Young's Double Slit Experiment set up. Here SS2-SS1=(lambda)/4. What is the condition of constructive and destructive interference at any point P in terms of path difference S2P-S1P?

Expert Answer:

In the young's double slit experiment,

The path difference s2p-s1p = nλ

But here it is given that ss2-ss1=λ/4

So this ?λ/4 path difference already exists when the light reaches at slit s1 and s2.
