According to the conditions, we get
y + 5 = 3(x + 5)
→ 3x - y = -10 .... (1)
y - 5 = 7(x - 5)
7x - y = 30 .... (2)
Subtracting (1) from (2), we get
4x = 40 → x = 10
Substitute the value of x in (1), we get
y = 3(10) + 10 = 40
Therefore, the present age of Jacob is 40 years and the present age of his Son is 10 years.
