We can find direction cosines when direction ratios are given.
 
Let a,b,c be the direction ratios of a line.
 
Then fiind square root of a squared plus b squared plus c squared end root
Thus, the direction cosines are, fraction numerator a over denominator square root of a squared plus b squared plus c squared end root end fraction comma fraction numerator b over denominator square root of a squared plus b squared plus c squared end root end fraction comma fraction numerator c over denominator square root of a squared plus b squared plus c squared end root end fraction
 
Direction ratios are the ratios and hence can take n number of fractional forms.
 
Thus, when the direction cosines are given, we cannot find a particular direction ratio.
