Find the squares of the following numbers: 1) 574 2) 541
Asked by Topperlearning User | 04 Jun, 2014, 01:23: PM Expert Answer

1) 574

The number is of the form 5ab.

Here, a = 7 and b = 4

We will use the rule (5ab)2 = (250 + ab) x 1000 + (ab)2

Thus, (574)2 = (250 + 74) x 1000 + (74)2

= 324 x 1000 + 5476

= 324000 + 5476

= 329476

2) 541

The number is of the form 5ab.

Here, a = 4 and b = 1

We will use the rule (5ab)2 = (250 + ab) x 1000 + (ab)2

Thus, (541)2 = (250 + 41) x 1000 + (41)2

= 291 x 1000 + 1681

= 291000 + 1681

= 292681
