Find the roots of the following quadratic equation by method of completing the square>

Expert Answer
2x² + x - 4 = 0
Multiplying the equation by 2 through out.
⇒ (2x)2 + 2x - 8 = 0
⇒ (2x)2 + 2 x (2x) x 1/2+ (1/2)2 - (1/2)2 - 8 = 0
⇒ (2x + 1/2)2 - 33/4 = 0
⇒ (2x+ 1/2) = 33/4
⇒ 2x = 33/4 - 1/2
⇒ x = (( 33/4 - 1)/2)
x = (33 - 1)/4 and -(33 + 1)/4
