find the maximum compression of the spring?

Expert Answer:

the kinetic energy in the block, KE = 1/2 mv2= 1/4 J
let compression be x
thus poential energy stored in the spring will be, PE = 1/2 kx2= 10x2
Thus by conservation of energy,
PE = KE
10x2=1/4
x= 0.16 m
