Expert Answer

The required equation of the ellipse will of the form x

^{2}/a^{2}+ y^{2}/b^{2}= 1It passes through the points (4, 3) and (-1, 4).

So, we get,

16/a

^{2}+ 9/b^{2}= 1 and 1/a^{2}+ 16/b^{2}= 116p + 9q = 1 and p + 16q = 1 where 1/a

^{2}= p and 1/b^{2}= qSolve the two equations to get 1/a

^{2}= p = 7/247 and 1/b^{2}= q = 15/247Thus, the equation of the ellipse will be 7x

^{2}+ 15y^{2}= 247.
