A single discount of 40% in rs 2500 = 40% of 2500 = Rs 1000
hence price after discount = Rs 2500 - 1000 = Rs 1500

Successive discounts case
First a discount of 36% is applied on Rs 2500, hence discount = 36% of Rs 2500 = Rs 900
Now a discount of 4% is applied on the remaining amount.
Remaining amount = Rs 2500 - 900 = Rs 1600
hence 4% discount = 4% of 1600 = Rs 64

So, the price after discount = Rs 1600 - 64 = Rs 1536
Total discount = Rs 964.

hence, the difference between the discounts = Rs 1000 - Rs 964 = Rs 36.
