Expert Answer:
R1 = (100 +- 3) Ohm, R2 = (200+-4)Ohm
For in series connection, R = R1+R2
R = 100+200 = 300,
Error (delta R) = delta R1+delta R2 = 3+4 = 7
Hence, % error = 7/300 *100 = 2.33%
2. For in parallel connection, 1/R = 1/R1 + 1/R2 = (R1+R2)/R1*R2
R = R1*R2/(R1+R2)
Hence, R = 100*200/300 = 200/3 = 66.67 ohm
error in R = [(R1+R2)(R1*dR2+R2*dR1) - R1*R2(dR1+dR2)]/(R1+R2)^2 (Using the derivative method)
error in R = [300*(100*4 +200*3) - 100*200 *7]/300^2
error in R = [30-14]/9 = 16/9
% error in R = [16/9 /(200/3) ]*100 = 2.67%
