Intracellular digestion - Digestion ocurring within the cytoplasm of the organism, as in many unicellular protozoans such as amoeba and paramoecium.
Extracellular digestion - This takes place within the lumen of the digestive system, outside the cells. It occurs in all higher animals like vertebrates, annelids, arthropods etc.
