Expression for centripetal acceleration

The centripetal force is the external force required to make a body follow a curved path.This force has the magnitude  F = mv^2/ r.

 

Here the acceleration in circular motion is called centripetal (centre-seeking) acceleration as it is always directed towards the centre of the circle.

Force = mass X acceleration = m ( v^2 / r) , where m= mass of the body v=its velocity , r=radius of the circle
