explain why the walls of basement godowns fully stocked with bags of grain often crack after the monsoons

Expert Answer:

Basement godowns do not have good ventilation arrangement, hence there occurs moisture accumulation in pockets. This moisture is absorbed by the grains which would then swell up, exerting pressure on the walls of the godown, leading to crack formation. In addition, these grains would also begin to rot.
