Explain why the isotopes have similar chemical properties but they differ in physical properties?

Expert Answer:

The chemical properties of an element depend on valence electrons only, so the extra neutron does not change them.
As for physical properties, the neutron adds to the mass of the atom, thats all.
so on the whole, properties of isotopes are pretty much similar to those of normal atoms.
