Let us assume that the frequencies are 499Hz, 500 Hz and 501 Hz.

beat frequency = difference between the two frequencies.

Number of beats formed by 499 and 500Hz is 1.

Number of beats formed by 500 and 501 Hz is 1.

Number of beats formed by 499 and 501 Hz is 2.

Total number of beats is 1+1+2 = 4.
